Real answers to the questions smokers actually ask.
About Quit by Heart
Is Quit by Heart drug-free? Can I use it with patches, gum, or medication?
Yes — completely. Quit by Heart is a drug-free, combination-therapy app that crushes cravings and eases withdrawal without a prescription. Use it on its own — cold turkey — or alongside patches, gum, candies, sprays or prescription medication to offset their shortcomings if you’re using them.
How is this different from other apps?
Most quit apps instruct you to take deep breaths, walk it off, and accept weight gain as a rite of passage. Quit by Heart helps you the moment cravings strike, false hunger hits, the environment triggers, nerves nundge, or self-sabotage sinks in – alleviating the stress, anxiety and torture of quitting nicotine. On top of that, we use Psychology that research confirms changes the underlying habit, which is what drives lasting success.2
Is Quit by Heart based on real science?
Yes. It’s built on published behavioral-science research — action planning is shown across 12 randomized trials to significantly increase quit rates,2 brief activity that eases cravings,3 and evidence that staying engaged with quit tools is linked to staying smoke-free.1 We’d rather show you the evidence than ask you to take our word for it.
I’ve tried to quit before and it didn’t stick. Why would this be different?
Around 68% of smokers already want to quit.2 What trips people up is the gap between deciding to quit and following through the moment a craving hits. Quit by Heart focuses on exactly those critical moments, giving you a ready, planned response so the decision you already made turns into action.
Will it adapt to me and my triggers?
Yes. The moments that make you reach for a cigarette are personal — your morning coffee, a stressful call, after a meal. Quit by Heart is built around your specific triggers, so the support is matched to the situations where you actually struggle, not generic advice.
The Craving Kill Switch
What is the Craving Kill Switch?
This. Changes. Everything. It’s the in-the-moment tool at the core of Quit by Heart — your fast response the instant a craving hits. Think of it as the “sword” in a sword-and-shield approach: something to strike the urge the second it appears, so you act on your quit plan instead of caving in. It’s drug-free and lives in the app, ready whenever you need it.
What does “30 for 50” mean?
How fast it works and how long the relief lasts: the Craving Kill Switch is designed to shut down an urge in 30 seconds but usually less — and a quick burst of action can hold cravings off for up to 50 minutes more.3
Do I have to work out or go to the gym?
No — this is not a workout. This specific short burst of action is enough to take the edge off a craving. The point is a fast reset in the moment, not exercise you have to schedule or lace up for.
What if a craving comes back, or returns before 50 minutes?
Use it again — there’s no limit. Cravings come in waves, and the switch is meant to be used any time withdrawal symptoms hit. For the triggers that keep bringing urges back, Quit by Heart pairs the switch (the “sword”) with habit-breaking tools (the “shield”) that reduce how often cravings fire in the first place.
When and where can I use it?
Anywhere, Anytime, the moment you need it. The Craving Kill Switch lives in the app, so it’s always in your pocket — at your desk, bored at home, out with friends — ready for the exact second an urge shows up. It can be performed standing, sitting, squatting, leaning or laying down.
Weight, health & quitting
Will I gain weight when I quit — and how much do people usually gain?
Weight gain is one of the top reasons people shelve quitting and a major cause of relapse. Quit by Heart is built to help you quit without the weight gain, by identifying and managing the “false hunger” that sends people to the snack cupboard.
Can I quit without medication and still avoid weight gain?
Yes. Identifying false hunger instantly and extinguishing it in the moment, breaking the hand-to-mouth habit, and not dieting at the same time are all drug-free solutions Quit by Heart deploys. Quit by Heart was designed to be used cold turkey, but definitely talk to your doctor or pharmacist about medications that can further aid smoking cessation.
Does it work for vaping too?
It’s built for nicotine cravings whether you smoke, vape, snus or chew. The published evidence behind it was conducted with cigarette smokers, and the same in-the-moment craving approach applies to nicotine from vaping, pouches and chew that use the same nicotine pathways as cigarettes.
Using the app
How much time does it take each day?
Very little. Quit by Heart is designed to be light and easy — a few seconds at a time, mostly right when a craving hits or you want to check your stats. The goal is to fit into your life, not add another chore to it.
Does it matter how often I use the app?
Yes — and it’s one of the clearest patterns in the research. Engagement and quitting success move together: people who use their quit tools more often are significantly more likely to still be smoke-free at 6 and 12 weeks.1 So Quit by Heart is built to be worth opening with each urge, especially in the first three months, when most quit attempts are won or lost.
Am I on my own, or do I get support?
We won't leave you hanging. Feeling supported is one of the biggest differences between people who quit and people who give up. Quit by Heart supports you in the moment, in real time, on-demand, when you need it most.
What happens once I’ve quit — do I still need the app?
Quitting isn’t a single moment; staying quit is what counts. Quit by Heart keeps supporting you after your last cigarette, helping you hold momentum and handle the cravings and slip-ups that can show up months or years later, so a bad day doesn’t turn into a full relapse.
What happens when I sign up?
Getting started involves answering a few quick questions about your nicotine use, selecting from a list of obstacles and solutions (edit or custom create your own), then your personalized plan and craving tools are ready. You can begin your first day right away.
How much does Quit by Heart cost?
Free to start, then less than the cost of one pack of cigarettes a week unti you break the habit — or covered by your health plan or employer.
Is my information private?
Yes. Your quit journey is personal, and we treat it that way.
